The City of Columbus is Seeking Public Input on Building Performance Standards | The City of Columbus
February 13th, 2026
The City of Columbus is seeking public input on a policy designed to improve the health and energy efficiency in large, existing buildings. A Building Performance Standard (BPS) establishes energy or emissions targets that progress over time and puts into place technical and financial supports to help building owners achieve them. A BPS can help our city achieve multiple goals of the Climate Action Plan while enhancing quality of life and fostering local economic growth. Columbus is looking to adopt a BPS Ordinance in 2026.
At the end of 2025, Sustainable Columbus hosted a Healthy Buildings Advisory Group where a diverse group of local stakeholders engaged in data driven discussions and activities designed to provide feedback in shaping a BPS that is right for our community. Columbus is providing opportunities for the public to share thoughts on the policy and the supports needed by the different groups affected. Food, drink, and free parking are available for all in-person events. You can find more information about the policy here: https://columbus.gov/BPSPolicy.
