Provide us with a brief summary of your business’ services
Emerald Creative Content helps small businesses become easier to find, understand, trust, and choose online. We build connected d0igital marketing systems across websites, SEO, AI search visibility, local SEO, content, social media, email marketing, paid advertising, reviews, and Google Business Profile management. Some clients need one specific lever pulled; others need us to look at the whole digital ecosystem, find the visibility gaps, and tell them where to focus first. Either way, the goal isn’t more random marketing activity. It’s making the business easier to find, easier to choose, and much better at turning attention into actual customers.
Describe your company in three words
Strategic. Human. Unboring.
Share a recent project, client success, or example of your work in action.
One of our favorite examples is Seattle Swank, a luxury home-staging and interior-design company. We developed an email strategy designed to turn a beautiful portfolio into a reliable business-development channel, and just two emails generated 43 new leads. During months when newsletters were sent, the website received more than 2,000 sessions, compared with roughly 315 in a month without an email campaign.
That result captures how we work: we don’t create marketing just to keep a content calendar full. We connect the message, audience, channel, and customer journey so the work creates measurable action.
How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
Digital marketing changes approximately every five minutes, so staying current is part of the job description. We invest heavily in continuing education, industry research, certifications, platform updates, workshops, peer communities, and hands-on testing across our own brand and client accounts. We’re also a Semrush Agency Partner and use platforms like Semrush, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console to compare industry conversations with what the data is actually telling us.
We don’t automatically chase every trend, though. We test it, evaluate whether it changes customer behavior, and determine whether it can create meaningful value for small businesses. Then we translate it into plain English, update our services when needed, and tell clients what matters and what they can safely ignore.
If you had to start over from scratch, what’s the first thing you’d do differently?
We’d build our operational and financial systems much earlier. In the beginning, like many small businesses, we focused heavily on winning the work and delivering it well. Was it necessary? Absolutely. But was it scalable? Not so much.
Starting over, we’d track profitability by service line, document workflows, define capacity, and build recurring-revenue offers from day one. We’d also get clearer sooner about the clients we serve best and the problems we’re uniquely equipped to solve. A good spreadsheet isn’t particularly glamorous, but neither is realizing your most popular offer barely makes money.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a business owner?
You don’t have to say yes to every dollar.
Not every client, project, or growth opportunity is good for the business. Some revenue drains capacity, distracts the team, or requires selling something the client doesn’t truly need. Learning to evaluate opportunities through the lens of fit, profitability, impact, and team health has helped us grow more intentionally.
The right revenue strengthens the company, creates better work, and supports stronger client relationships. The wrong revenue is often just chaos with an invoice attached.
What makes a successful partnership at your company?
The best partnerships are built on trust, transparency, shared accountability, and a willingness to communicate like actual humans. We bring the strategy, expertise, and execution, but our clients bring essential knowledge about their business, customers, goals, and industry. The strongest work happens when both sides participate openly and treat each other as partners rather than order-taker and approver.
We also value curiosity and honesty. We’ll explain why we’re recommending something, speak up when we see a problem, and tell a client when they don’t need to spend money on a particular service. In return, we need timely feedback, access to the right information, and openness to strategy. Great marketing is collaborative; sadly, we still haven’t found a way to optimize around mind-reading.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
Columbus has the energy and opportunity of a growing city, but its business community still feels deeply connected. People make introductions, share resources, attend each other’s events, recommend local companies, and genuinely want to see good businesses succeed. There’s an entrepreneurial spirit here without the belief that everyone has to win at someone else’s expense.
The city also has an incredibly diverse small-business ecosystem spanning technology, professional services, healthcare, nonprofits, hospitality, retail, construction, design, and more. That creates endless opportunities to collaborate and support businesses doing meaningful work. Columbus understands that small business isn’t a side note to the local economy. It’s the good stuff.
What do you want people to remember about your business five years from now?
We want people to remember that Emerald made modern marketing feel clearer, more honest, and much more useful for small businesses. We also want to be known as the company that stayed ahead of major changes in search without getting swept up in hype. And most of all, we want to be remembered as that team that was awesome to work with, from day 1 to year 10.
