About Need Knows No Season: Behind the Red Shield
The annual Need Knows No Season Luncheon is The Salvation Army in Central Ohio’s largest fundraising campaign—raising critical funds and awareness to support our neighbors facing poverty and crisis in our community. This year, we invite guests to take a deeper look Behind the Red Shield to see the real stories, faces, and impact of The Salvation Army’s mission at work.
The luncheon highlights how local donations fuel life-changing programs and services—from food assistance and housing support to anti-human trafficking efforts and workforce development. It’s an opportunity to see how the generosity of our community helps transform lives 365 days a year.
At Need Knows No Season: Behind the Red Shield, guests will learn how The Salvation Army in Central Ohio meets human needs without discrimination and how, together, we can continue to bring hope and stability to those who need it most. All proceeds from this event stay right here in central Ohio, directly benefiting local individuals and families.

Featuring Keynote Speaker, Archie Griffin
A true Buckeye legend, Archie Griffin is the only two-time winner of the Heisman Trophy and one of the most celebrated athletes in college football history. As a three-time All-American at The Ohio State University and a seven-season NFL veteran with the Cincinnati Bengals, Archie’s athletic achievements are etched into the heart of Central Ohio.
Yet, it’s his legacy off the field that makes him the perfect speaker for our luncheon. As a long-time leader at Ohio State and the founder of the Archie and Bonita Griffin Foundation Fund, Archie has dedicated his life to opening doors for the next generation—especially through education, youth development, and giving back to the community.
A passionate advocate for opportunity, integrity, and service, Archie Griffin embodies the values The Salvation Army champions every day. We’re honored to welcome him as our keynote speaker.
