Tell us about your company’s mission and values.
Our law firm’s mission statement focuses on our relentless effort to provide impeccable and efficient client service that recognizes the needs of our pragmatic business clients:

Practical Advice. Real Solutions. That’s the Roetzel Way.

Roetzel offers practical solutions for companies that are looking for real-world, innovative, responsive, and efficient legal advice. We offer advice, not just options. Solutions, not just analysis.

What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
Most of all, we value the way that the Columbus Chamber brings together all of Columbus’s stakeholders as a collective community. We have the highest respect for what the many successful local companies bring to the Columbus community, and we as a Firm are honored by our role within that community as a trusted advisor and thought leader.

How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
Much like my other colleagues here at Roetzel, I stay on top of trends by spending time every week following big cases and potential legislative activity that may affect my practice, my clients, and the larger industries that I serve.

Also, in my leadership role on the Business Torts and Unfair Competition Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation, I spend several hours every month interfacing with some of the very best lawyers from across the country in this focused practice area. In my leadership role, I edit our Committee’s Quarterly Journal that is sent out to lawyers across the country to keep them up-to-date on cutting edge issues affecting the cornerstones of Business Torts and Unfair Competition law, with our four yearly issues being dedicated to litigation involving:

(a) business fraud and unfair trade practices

(b) trade secrets and other intellectual property

(c) restrictive covenants (e.g., Non-Competes); and,

(d) fiduciary duty litigation.

I take pride in this role of helping to educate other lawyers across the country, and it certainly helps me stay on top of trends.

We at Roetzel cherish the trust that our clients place in us. We embrace and continue to earn that trust by building long-term partnerships with our clients and thinking proactively about what risk and opportunities may lay ahead.

What is your company culture like?
Our Columbus office is like a family. Many of our lawyers and staff have been at Roetzel for years, if not decades—having come from other firms, seen the “Roetzel difference,” and chosen to stay for the long haul. The longevity of many of our Columbus team members is a testament to our great culture.

We also care deeply about, and are actively involved in, the Columbus community. There are numerous Leadership Columbus alumni in our office, and we regularly have someone in LC’s Signature Program. In addition, our lawyers serve on many non-profit boards and other community organizations to actively work on projects to help the greater Columbus community. I personally am excited about my current civic work with United Way of Central Ohio and other non-profits to assist with developing financial literacy programs to help bridge education gaps faced by children from economically underprivileged backgrounds. I also volunteer my time with several organizations that help provide guidance and insight to young entrepreneurs and aspiring startups, and am deeply passionate about what I can do as a lawyer to help provide initial guidance to help new entrepreneurs on the pathway to success.

What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
Columbus has a growing and thriving business community and has been ranked as the 11th fastest growing city in the nation. It was also ranked as the #1 American city to work in tech. It’s no secret that Columbus is the fastest growing, most vibrant city in Ohio. We feel the growth and excitement of Columbus all around us, particularly in seeing the way that so many companies have rallied behind the community during the difficulties of the past year. The generosity of local companies during the past year has shown that the growth and vibrancy here is fueled, in part, by “The Columbus Way,”—the unusual way professionals in Columbus from across the public and private sectors work collaboratively to create opportunity and make big things happen. We at Roetzel embrace the Columbus Way and are proud of our role in the #community. We are thrilled with our role of helping to support the entrepreneurial spirit here—from helping a new company form, protect its IP, and scale, to helping middle market and fortune-500 companies handle a full spectrum of issues and litigation.
