SWACO PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES THIS FALL TO RECYCLE ELECTION YARD SIGNS AND COMPOST PUMPKINS | SWACO
October 29th, 2025
Columbus, OH — Following the election next week, SWACO will be offering residents several convenient and free ways to recycle political yard signs and keep them out of the landfill and from becoming roadside litter. Franklin County residents are encouraged to recycle their paper and plastic signs and the accompanying metal stands in one of the following manners:
– SWACO Recycling Convenience Center Drop-Off: Throughout November yard signs and metal stands can be dropped off at the Recycling Convenience Center at 2566 Jackson Pike in Columbus between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. – Franklin County Board of Elections Drop-Off: Yard signs can be dropped off November 5th through November 30th in the blue recycling dumpster at the east end of the parking lot near the Board of Elections building at 1700 Morse Rd. in Columbus.
– In Addition: Paper signs can be placed in a home’s curbside recycling container and the stretchy plastic signs can be recycled at retail locations accepting film plastics. Please don’t put coroplast signs or metal stands in curbside or drop-off containers.
This time of year, individuals may also have pumpkins and gourds on-hand, and rather than sending them to the landfill when they’re no longer needed, Franklin County residents have several convenient and easy ways to to compost their unwanted pumpkins and gourds.
– SWACO Recycling Convenience Center: October 1st through December 14th, pumpkins can be dropped off at the Convenience Center at 2566 Jackson Pike in Columbus between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
– Backyard Composting: Pumpkins are a great addition to any sort of at home composting bin or pile. Simply remove any candles or wax residue paint, or other decorations, and cut them into smaller pieces to encourage them to break down more quickly before placing in with other compostable materials.
– Community Drop-Off Sites: Many local communities offer their own pumpkin drop-off locations. Visit SaveMoreThanFood.org/Pumpkins to find a list of local community drop-offs and learn more ways to sustainably dispose of your pumpkins this year.
