Protect your health with checkups and screenings | The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
May 14th, 2026
Do you put off your health care appointments because life feels too busy? Many women do. But regular checkups and screenings are some of the best ways to keep tabs on your health and catch concerns early.
An annual checkup with a primary care provider can help guide your care. These visits often include blood pressure, cholesterol and other health checks, along with a review of your medical history and risk factors. Your provider will also recommend screenings based on your age and needs.
Those screenings may change over time. Cervical cancer screening often starts at age 21. Around age 40, it may be time to talk about mammograms. At age 45, colorectal cancer screening is recommended. Ask about bone density testing at age 65 or earlier if you have a petite frame or family history of fractures.
Learn more from Ohio State experts about recommended timelines for health screenings by age.
Taking time for checkups and screenings can help prevent serious illness and protect your health for the years ahead.
