Provide us with a brief summary of your business’ services

StretchDollar makes health benefits for small businesses simpler and more affordable. Through our free platform, small business owners can set a monthly pre-tax budget their employees can use to pay for health insurance plans that they select and own (with help from us). It’s a win-win, SMB owners can control their benefits budget, and employees can choose their health plan.

Tell us about your company’s mission and values

StretchDollar is on a mission to make small businesses the best place in the world to work. A big part of that? Making it easier for SMBs to take care of their people. We’re starting with improving access to affordable health insurance for small businesses and the people who work for them.

What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?

StretchDollar is big fans of the Columbus Chamber because it has a big, thriving small business community…and we love SMBs. The Chamber also offers a ton of great perks to help businesses grow and succeed. We’re already taking advantage of the market research and are looking forward to attending networking events this summer.

How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?

StretchDollar is a startup taking advantage of an existing health benefits rule called ICHRA and making it fit perfectly for smaller-sized small businesses (those with <20 employees). Because StretchDollar is paving a new path, we have to rely on a lot of different sources – data on pricing and trends in the SMB space but also ‘on-the-ground’ feedback from customers and owners.

What is your company culture like?

Two of StretchDollar’s key value pillars are simplicity and joy. They tie directly with our mission and the type of company we want to be. Health insurance can be complicated and tedious. But it’s also important for retaining and recruiting top talent and, well, overall wellbeing. Small business owners didn’t start a business thinking they’d have to be health insurance experts. That’s where StretchDollar comes in. We’re here to make everything simpler, from the process to the jargon – and we’re all about having a good time while we’re at it. Because when you find joy in what you do, it hardly feels like work. (Our mascot Dolly the stretchy dachshund always makes us smile.)

What does it take to be a successful employee at your company?

We’re a small business too, and being on the smaller side means it’s crucial to have a healthy work environment. Here, everyone works hard, but we also make sure there’s room to speak up, make mistakes, and share a laugh or two.

What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?

We’re new to Columbus and we’re already blown away by how friendly, outgoing, and helpful everyone’s been.
