What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?

We appreciate the chamber’s networking events such as the luncheons and annual breakfast meeting and resources that enhance our visibility in the Columbus market. We opened our Dublin-based office in spring 2018, so the chamber is an important tool for us to be recognized as a committed firm to our clients and the central Ohio region. We look forward to getting more involved with the chamber and making more connections in 2020.

How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?

Due to the various disciplines in our firm, our designers maintain membership and are active in their respective affiliations such as American Institute of Architects; American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers; the U.S. Green Building Council and others. Our marketing and business development directors maintain membership and are active in SMPS Columbus chapter. We also receive subscriptions to industry-focused newsletters and publications such as Building Design+Construction, Learning by Design and Engineering News-Record. Trade shows, such as the annual Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference, also provide our team the opportunity to stay up on trends and learn the needs of our clients.

What is your company culture like?

Our company culture can easily be summed up as: We are driven to provide good design, to service the client and to do what is right. At Garmann/Miller we work hard to deliver the quality our clients deserve, and we also have fun to make it an enjoyable, motivating and creative environment. Our CEO Eric Baltzell, who is a professional engineer, values our company culture and has introduced various wellness, social and team-building programs to ensure our team is collaborative and truly enjoys working together.

What does it take to be a successful employee at your company?

It takes a complete dedication and buy-in of our mission—to provide the highest level of quality and performance. You also need to thrive in a team atmosphere, as everything we do is dependent on each team member doing their part for our overall success and turning our client’s vision into reality. Our client relationships are the foundation of our success and drive us in our efforts to positively affect the communities we serve.

What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?

Exciting growth, which brings new business opportunities. Diversity of people and access to a variety of different perspectives, which helps when developing business strategies and leads to higher creativity. Columbus also has great restaurants and attractions that add to our quality of life and team-building opportunities. There also are no shortage of philanthropic efforts to get involved with and give back to our communities as well as trade shows and networking opportunities for professional development.
