Celebrating 60 Years of Faith Mission: A Legacy Built with Columbus Businesses | Lutheran Social Services

May 5th, 2026

For sixty years, Faith Mission has stood as one of Columbus’ most trusted lifelines for neighbors experiencing homelessness and hunger. What began as an effort to meet the urgent needs of men without shelter or food after the closing of the City Mission has grown into a comprehensive program offering not only shelter and nutritious meals, but health care, employment support and housing services that more than a thousand people rely on every year to help transform their lives.

That growth didn’t happen by accident. It happened because Columbus businesses — from family‑owned shops to Fortune 500 employers — have shown up, year after year, to make sure Faith Mission could keep its doors open to people experiencing homelessness.

Over the decades, local companies, including Chamber members, have provided everything from volunteers to corporate grants and donations to in‑kind donations and leadership on boards and committees. Many of Faith Mission’s most significant milestones — opening the first medical clinic, expanding women’s services, launching employment programs and building new shelter facilities — were made possible because the business community believed in the work and invested in it.

That partnership continues to matter just as much today. Columbus is growing rapidly and human services funding is in a more perilous state than ever. With that growth comes rising housing costs and increased demand for emergency shelter, and more people turning to Faith Mission for stability, hope and a path forward.

As Faith Mission marks its 60th anniversary, the message is clear: the next 60 years will require the same spirit of collaboration that has defined the past six decades. Alongside public entities and private individuals, businesses large and small play a vital role — not only through financial support, but through volunteerism, advocacy and the belief that a thriving Columbus must include every neighbor.

Faith Mission’s story is, in many ways, a Columbus story: innovative, compassionate, community‑driven and powered by people who care. Businesses have been part of that story from the beginning, and your continued partnership will help ensure that every person in our city has the chance to stabilize, rebuild and thrive.
