Provide us with a brief summary of your business’ services.
City Year Columbus is an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to keep students in school and on track to graduate. We unite young AmeriCorps members to serve for a year in some of our nation’s highest-need schools.
Tell us about your company’s mission and values.
City Year’s mission is to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership, and social entrepreneurship, and City Year fulfills this mission by focusing its service on education and helping students graduate from high school. City Year believes that every child has the potential to be successful through the power of education. Our goal is to provide the extra support that students need in order to reach their full potential.
What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
We are most excited about working with the Columbus Chamber because of the visibility and legitimacy it affords us. By partnering with the Columbus Chamber, we are able to strengthen our brand and increase awareness about our organization. We have already begun to see the benefits of our membership, and we look forward to continuing this relationship!
What is your company culture like?
City Year’s company is very strong and unique and is centered on idealism. We view idealism as skills—imagining, recruiting, transforming, and inspiring—that can be mastered and put into practice. City Year’s unique culture is grounded in our 10 core values: service to a cause greater than self, students first and collaboration always, belief in the power of young people, social justice for all, level 5 leadership, empathy, inclusivity, Ubuntu, teamwork, and excellence.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
Columbus is a hub not only for business but also for collaboration. In Columbus, corporations, nonprofit organizations, public entities, and individuals all work together to make Columbus the very best it can be and to ensure the wellbeing of its citizens. The “spirit of Columbus” is strong and is the foundation for the community that exists here. City Year is grateful to be a part of such a vibrant and generous community that truly emphasizes collaboration and partnership.
