John Glenn International Runway 5K Run & Walk Raises Funds for Honor Flight Columbus | Columbus Regional Airport Authority
September 12th, 2024
COLUMBUS, OH – More than 1,000 community members will participate in John Glenn International’s Runway 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, September 14th. This event will benefit Honor Flight Columbus, a nonprofit organization that provides senior veterans with a day in Washington, D.C. visiting the memorials built in their honor.
The south runway is closed at CMH to make way for projects leading up to the new terminal groundbreaking, so this year’s race will offer the unique opportunity to run along the taxiway, next to an active runway where planes will be taking off and landing. The north runway will remain open and the event will not impact commercial flights.
The previous five races have raised more than $345,000 for Honor Flight Columbus.
In its sixth year, this popular community event gives participants rare access to the airfield while raising funds for an important cause.

About Honor Flight Columbus
Honor Flight Columbus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America’s veterans with a trip to Washington D.C. to visit their service and war memorials. These trips are free of charge to any qualified veteran. We strive to help veterans share their stories with future generations, as well as celebrate their service to our country with a proper homecoming that many of them never received. With the conclusion of the 2023 flight season, the group has successfully flown 128 missions that totaled over 9,300 veterans. The organization is funded entirely by donations from various businesses, foundations, school organizations, and other grateful Americans.
