GRAND OPENING OF THE JACKSON TOWNSHIP FIRE TRAINING FACILITY | SWACO

December 19th, 2024

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Today, officials opened the new Jackson Township Fire Training Facility located on Young Road, just south of State Route 665. This modern facility is constructed from new and repurposed shipping containers and will provide essential search and rescue and firefighting training opportunities for Jackson Township’s First Responders. It is located on land provided by SWACO.

“This new training facility is a significant step in ensuring our firefighters are equipped to meet the growing needs of our community. We are sincerely grateful to SWACO, the Jackson Township Board of Trustees, our dedicated firefighters, and the entire community for their invaluable support in bringing this project to life,” said Jackson Township Fire Chief Little.

This six-acre site leased to the Township by SWACO consists of a one-acre gravel lot with a two-story live fire training prop to simulate a house, and a four-story training prop to simulate a commercial building.

This is not the first intergovernmental agreement SWACO has made with local police and fire. SWACO also currently leases land to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for a law enforcement training facility on Young Road.

“SWACO is pleased to be able to support the Jackson Township Fire Department’s training initiatives for the brave men and women of our fire safety forces,” said Joe Lombardi, Executive Director. “SWACO’s contribution of this small piece of property will help firefighters prepare for the dangerous situations they will face in the line of duty and ultimately help to improve the delivery of safety services in central Ohio.”

“As a trustee of Jackson Township, I’m proud to announce the opening of our state-of-the-art training facility, made possible through the generous support of SWACO,” shared Trustee Jim Rauck. “This facility represents our unwavering commitment to public safety and equipping our first responders with the tools and training they need to serve our community. Together with SWACO, we are building a safer, stronger future for everyone in Jackson Township.”
