Columbus, OH — The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Derrick R. Clay has been named incoming President and CEO. Derrick will assume the role on January 6, 2025. The Board, Governance Committee, and Leadership staff are preparing for the transition.
As an established leader with deep ties to the Columbus community and extensive experience in strategic development and organizational growth, Clay brings a forward-thinking vision that will strengthen the Chamber’s ongoing mission to support the prosperity of the Columbus Region business community.
Derrick Clay, who has a distinguished record in both public service and the private sector, has been a champion of economic development and workforce initiatives across Ohio. His prior roles as Vice-Chair of the Chamber’s Board and Chair of the Chamber Foundation Board have underscored his commitment to removing barriers and expanding opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.
“I am deeply honored to join the Columbus Chamber of Commerce as its next President and CEO,” said Clay. “Columbus is a thriving hub of opportunity, innovation, and collaboration, and I am excited to work alongside our talented team, members, and community partners to drive economic growth and make our Columbus Region an even greater place to live and work.”
“I can’t think of a better choice to lead the Columbus Chamber of Commerce than Derrick Clay. His wealth of experience and deep relationships in the business community will ensure that the Columbus Chamber continues the excellence that Don DePerro established,” said Steve Stivers, President and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. “I am looking forward to working with Derrick to continue the economic growth in central Ohio.”
The Chamber also extends heartfelt gratitude to Don DePerro, who has admirably served as President and CEO for his nine years. Under DePerro’s leadership, the Columbus Chamber strengthened its role as an advocate for the local business community, launched new programs that expanded access and opportunity, and fostered a culture of inclusivity and engagement. His dedication and vision have left a lasting impact on the Chamber and the Columbus Region.
“The Board and I would like to express our profound appreciation to Don DePerro for his service, leadership, and commitment to the Columbus Chamber and its members,” said Tony Ruscilli, President of Ruscilli Construction. “Don’s work has set a strong foundation, and we look forward to building on that legacy with Derrick at the helm. Derrick’s dedication to advancing our Columbus Region’s economic opportunities and his visionary approach to leadership make him the ideal person to lead the Chamber into an exciting future.”
