SWACO’s Statement On Opening Of New Central Ohio Material Recovery Facility

August 6th, 2024

COLUMBUS, Ohio (August 6, 2024) – Central Ohioans value their ability to be able to recycle, and for a long time have expressed their desire to be able to recycle more of the materials entering their homes.  Today’s opening of a new material recovery facility by Rumpke Waste and Recycling will help create opportunities for residents, families and businesses in the Sollid Waste District to increase their recycling, and SWACO applauds those efforts.

“SWACO is pleased to welcome a new material recovery facility to the Franklin County Solid Waste District which will improve families’ ability to recycle even more materials,” said Executive Director Joe Lombardi.  “More than 96% of the homes in Central Ohio have access to a curbside recycling program, yet most materials entering homes are sent to the landfill.  Recycling has significant environmental and economic impacts and SWACO extends our congratulations to the Rumpke family and entire Rumpke Waste and Recycling team on the opening of this new technologically advanced facility.  We look forward to continuing our partnership to keep even more of these valuable recyclables out of the landfill and moving through a circular Ohio economy.”
