Statement from Derrick R. Clay, President & CEO of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, on the Unexpected Passing of Don DePerro

January 12th, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the unexpected passing of Don DePerro, former President & CEO of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Don’s leadership left an indelible mark on our organization and our community. His vision, passion, and dedication to fostering growth and opportunity in the Columbus Region inspired countless businesses and individuals to thrive.

During his tenure, Don championed initiatives that not only supported the Chamber’s members but also strengthened the economic fabric of our Columbus Region. His ability to connect people, build relationships, and advocate for our business community set a standard of excellence that will guide us for years to come.

Don was a kind and thoughtful leader, guided by his faith and devoted to his family. He was deeply respected and admired by all who had the privilege to work alongside him. On a personal note, I have lost a dear friend whose mentorship, support, and warmth profoundly impacted me. His legacy will continue to inspire the Chamber’s work as we strive to honor his contributions and uphold his commitment to making Columbus a premier place to live and work.

On behalf of the Columbus Chamber—our staff, board of directors, and members—we extend our heartfelt condolences to Don’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Our community has lost a remarkable leader whose impact will never be forgotten.
