cbuzz: Lori Kaiser, Kaiser Consulting: Developing momentum as an entrepreneur

July 11th, 2019

Lori Kaiser left her job in public accounting without a clear path for what was ahead in her career.

Now, nearly three decades later, Lori is the founder of an award-winning accounting and business consulting firm that has been recognized as a Best Place to Work by Columbus Business First multiple times.

It wasn’t until Lori started interviewing to re-enter the workforce that she realized the standard office model wasn’t suitable for her success.

“Back then, I thought a big career meant working for someone else,” said Lori.

It was that epiphany that sparked the concept for what is now Kaiser Consulting.

Lori hired her first employee back in 2004 and has since grown her business to employ over 70 people. What’s her secret for growth as an entrepreneur? Focusing on being manager-centric rather than owner-centric.

Kaiser Consulting allows its employees to dictate their work schedules. Each year, they project out their 52 weeks and decide what works best for their optimal work outflow.

“Employees tell us when they want to work and we then manage the work, around their availability,” said Lori.

Lori’s success as an entrepreneur is backed by her impressive number of professional and personal accolades. She was recognized as the Columbus Chamber’s 2019 Small Business Leader Award recipient, a Woman You Should Know by WELD and Olentangy Entrepreneur of the Year.

Tune in to the latest episode of cbuzz as Lori shares the secret to handling growth as a business owner, how to best build momentum and the key to creating a successful culture in the workplace.
