MLK Day Open House | Ohio History Connection

January 20 @ 12:00 pm 4:00 pm

In partnership with The King Arts Complex, join us for the annual MLK Day Open House on the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday to explore the impact of his life and legacy.

This annual community event is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy musical and live theatrical performances, learn about the civil rights movement, participate in art activities, tour the Ohio History Center and meet new friends

This event is free and open to the public, though advance registration is recommended.

Seeds of Caring activities:

1) Breakfast Kits: Children will decorate a bag with positive messages, then fill it with breakfast items that will be donated to Feed the Kids Columbus. Feed the Kids Columbus will be on-site with an information booth.

2) Dream Catchers: Children will reflect on their dream for our world and make a dream catcher as a reminder that they too can make a difference in our world. They will take the dream catchers home with them.

3) “Use Your Voice” Posters: Children will reflect on issues that are important to them, then use the power of their voices to spread justice by creating a poster. They will take the posters home with them.

4) Suncatchers for Seniors: Children will make a suncatcher that will be donated to seniors at National Church Residences to help brighten their day.

5) Cleaning Kits: Children will decorate a cheer card and assemble a cleaning kit that will be donated to local nonprofit organizations and given to people who newly moved into a new space. They will be donated to Community Housing Network, Community Refugee & Immigration Services (CRIS), Home for Families, Huckleberry House, and YWCA.
