COSI UNVEILS JAW-DROPPING NEW EXHIBITION: SHARKS | COSI
April 11th, 2025
Get ready to dive into the science behind the ocean’s most awe-inspiring—and misunderstood—creatures. COSI is thrilled to present Sharks, a jaw-some new exhibition making a splash from April 12 through September 1, 2025. In collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History in New York, Sharks plunges visitors deep into the world of these ancient predators with dozens of life-sized models, immersive media experiences, and hands-free interactives that reveal the surprising truth behind one of the planet’s most iconic species.
This blockbuster exhibition brings guests face-to-face with everything from the massive 33-foot whale shark to the glowing, pocket-sized lanternshark. This exhibit is a high-impact adventure through more than 450 million years of evolution, highlighting the staggering diversity and importance of sharks, rays, skates, and their relatives. Partnering with the Orton Geological Museum at The Ohio State University, COSI is adding real shark fossils in this exhibit to enhance the experience and reinforce local connections.
“Sharks are often portrayed as villains in movies, but they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of ocean ecosystems,” said Josh Sarver, Chief Experience Officer at COSI. “This exhibition helps flip the narrative. It invites guests of all ages to see sharks in a new light—less like monsters and more like marvels of nature. We’re excited to bring this world-class experience to Central Ohio and spark new conversations about science, conservation and our shared planet.”
Far from the stereotype of mindless predators, sharks boast incredible adaptations that range from regenerative teeth to electromagnetic sensing capabilities. Guests will discover how sharks grow, hunt, sense, and survive across diverse habitats, and explore how they’re affected by human activity. From the prehistoric megalodon to the futuristic “video mirror” that turns you into a shark, there’s something for every explorer at Sharks.
This exhibition also shines a spotlight on conservation. While shark attacks are rare, the threats humans pose to sharks—through overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change—are dangerously real. Visitors will walk away with a greater appreciation for these fascinating animals and what it takes to protect them.
Sharks is included with general admission and free for COSI Members. For more information, visit cosi.org.
