A Columbus Chamber Wellness Initiative
Supporting Whole-Person Wellness for a Stronger Workforce
What began as a simple check-in among teammates during the isolation of the 2020 pandemic has grown into a robust and intentional wellness initiative at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Born out of virtual gatherings and grounded in connection, A Better US now serves as a powerful model for how businesses can support the mental, physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing of their teams.
Our Story
During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Columbus Chamber team, like many across the Columbus Region, shifted to remote work. In the face of isolation, our team came together for virtual lunch hours that quickly evolved into monthly Lunch and Learns centered around health and wellness. Over time, these sessions expanded to include topics such as financial literacy, local history, social services, and more – connecting staff with trusted community experts and helpful resources.
Today, A Better US continues to thrive, coordinated by a dedicated internal committee and supported by Central Ohio’s leading healthcare and wellness organizations.
Why It Matters
Wellness is not a perk – it’s a business imperative. With rising healthcare costs and increasing demands on employees’ time and energy, supporting whole-person wellness is essential for sustainable, productive workplaces. National data shows that over 40% of employers now offer wellness resources, and those that do often experience better retention, lower absenteeism, and improved morale.
By sharing the successful internal model of A Better US, the Columbus Chamber is helping employers across our Columbus Region build healthier cultures, reduce long-term costs, and support their teams in meaningful ways.
