WELD Columbus May Leadership Series – The Real Lean-In | WELD Columbus

April 11 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

In business, “lean in” means to actively engage, take initiative, and pursue opportunities for advancement, particularly used in the context of encouraging women to assertively seek leadership roles and career progression within a company, often associated with Sheryl Sandberg’s book “Lean In”. Kimberly Minor, CEO, Women of Color Retail Alliance will lead a discussion with Maresa Campbell, Senior Director Care Management, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where they will challenge the conventional “Lean In” narrative by offering a more holistic and inclusive approach to women’s empowerment in the workplace.

Kimberly and Maresa will critically examine the limitations of individualfocused empowerment strategies and instead emphasize the power of collective action and systemic change. They will explore how women can uplift each other through meaningful allyship, active sponsorship, and collaborative networks that acknowledge and address the diverse experiences of women across intersections of gender, race, ability, and socioeconomic status.

The discussion will provide attendees with practical ways to dismantle structural barriers and create environments where all women can thrive without compromising their authenticity or well-being. Real-world case studies will illustrate successful initiatives that have fostered genuine inclusion and advancement for women from various backgrounds. By the end of this session, attendees will have a new perspective on women’s empowerment that goes beyond “leaning in” to embrace collective support, systemic change, and intersectional awareness.
