Keeping active when life gets busy can get difficult. However, it is always important to make sure that you are looking after yourself and your health. Unfortunately, work obligations, and the exhaustion they can lead to at the end of the day, can take their toll. Here are some ways to work around a busy work schedule so that you stay happy and healthy.

Schedule your workouts

Chances are you have a planner or calendar that can be used to track meetings and other obligations. Take a look at it and pencil in some work out time in between meetings or conferences. Do your best to keep your work out time consistent, but if you need to move one day’s session to a slightly later time it won’t do any harm. The most important part of scheduling your workouts, though, is to stick to it and find a time that you can be consistent with. This step will take dedication, but the hardest part is getting started.

Use bodyweight exercises

Bodyweight exercises are great because they do not require any preparation or equipment, meaning they can be done anywhere. Some effective bodyweight exercises are push-ups, sit-ups or crunches, planks, lunges, squats, and jumping jacks. These are perfect for doing throughout the day, such as if you find yourself with a few free minutes during your lunch break or when you get out of bed. Bodyweight workouts are effective and efficient, so try circuits combining a few different exercises to work the different parts of your body quickly. This will actually also allow you to get some cardio at the same time.

Join a gym close to work

For those that want the gym experience, try to find one close or on the way to where you work. This makes working out easier before or after work, and can even be great for lunch breaks. Many people enjoy working out before going into work because afterward they simply shower, get dressed, and are ready to go. But for non-morning people, evening or afternoon workouts work perfectly as well.

Other easy ways

Another way to keep yourself active with a busy work week is to take the stairs. If you live an apartment complex, walk down and up instead of using the elevator and the same can be done at work. Walking or biking to work if possible is another simple method to include exercise in your day-to-day life without having to set aside specific time for it.
