What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
Networking with other business people.
How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
There are three magazines specific to the roofing industry that I read as well as other news sources. Our vendors are also very up-to-date on the trends in the industry based on what they see day-to-day. CentiMark and our management team works very hard to keep associates informed on the industry and the business climate in the country. CentiMark is also a member of the NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) and they provide daily information about roofing and issues that impact the roofing industry.
What is your company culture like?
Our company is a family-business and we function as a family. Our company culture is a culture of giving.
What does it take to be a successful employee at your company?
Hard work, dedication and attention to the customer’s needs. Going above and beyond in every situation. Work hard; work smart.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
Columbus is a vibrant, fast-growing city with a robust business community.
What pieces of advice have you found to be the most helpful since starting your career?
In the commercial roofing industry, the most important thing is that all the crews are working and generating revenue. A former group director told me that if the crews are earning a paycheck and feeding their families, everything else will fall into place for the office and me. Two quotes that have stuck in my head over the years: “Know what you want and have a burning desire to get it” and “You never fail until you stop trying.”
How do you achieve a work/life balance?
Sometimes it can be difficult planning things around work especially when you’re extremely busy or working on large projects. I try to take at least a full week vacation somewhere warm in the spring and plan long weekend trips for either concerts, sporting events or trips home to visit family and friends. After work, I like to work out. On the weekends, I find time for chores or projects around the house and, of course, golf. It’s always nice to have something to look forward to when not at work.
Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside the office?
If I’m meeting a customer, any lunch spot where you can grab a bite to eat and have a conversation works great. It’s a great way to build rapport and establish a relationship. If not work related, the place can be anywhere as long as you enjoy the people you are with for lunch.
