COLUMBUS, Ohio – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Ohio Community is celebrating the LEED Silver certification of the Michael B. Coleman Government Center on Thursday, July 25, 2019 with a plaque ceremony celebration followed by a building tour.
Former Mayor Coleman, along with members of the project team including lead architects DesignGroup and Schooley Caldwell, Korda Engineering, landscape architects MKSK Studio and Messer Construction will be in attendance along with USGBC leadership and invited Columbus City officials.
The 195,000 square-foot, high-performing office building, which provides outdoor green space and features artwork from local artists, is part of Columbus’s Municipal Campus vision and brings together four City departments (Development, Building and Zoning, Public Services, and Public Utilities). The departments, previously housed in different buildings around Columbus, are now under one roof to create an efficient “one-stop shop” for residents and businesses to handle a multitude of functions such as regulatory, code and construction issues. The Center was designed to be energy efficient through passive solar design strategies and includes state-of-the-art HVAC distribution and temperature control, daylight harvesting and sunshade-controlled glazing and a green roof that empties rainwater into a garden onsite.
