Dear Business Community:
Your company is invited to become a partner in one of central Ohio’s most influential job training and internship initiatives: Restoration Academy. This program was created to address the fact that having a criminal background is one of the most difficult barriers to employment. Restoration Academy is a four- to – six month supported work experience program provided by the City of Columbus, in partnership with The Workforce Development Board of Central Ohio (WDBCO) and nine community based organizations.
Since its inception in 2012, 186 people previously incarcerated have participated in the program, with 159 graduates who have attained gainful employment with over 50 private sector employers. The program has seen 0% recidivism in its participants and currently boasts an 85% graduation rate. These results are praiseworthy and a testament to removing commonly held notions about previously incarcerated individuals.
In central Ohio, we have seen steady growth in our economy that has resulted in a competitive employee market where employers encounter challenges regarding retention of current employees and stiff competition for new recruits. The demand for qualified applicants has increased, and we have found that those individuals are an untapped potential workforce. The success of Restoration Academy is due to the collaborative efforts of our partners demonstrating to private sector employers that hiring previously incarcerated individuals is good for business.
We invite you to an Employer information session on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 8:00am at the OhioMeansJobs Center (1111 East Broad Street). The session will give you an opportunity to learn more about Restoration Academy and how the program has made a strong impact in our community. Light refreshments will be provided to all guest.
We hope that you will join us in this great opportunity to access skilled, talented employees for your current and upcoming positions. Restoration Academy is beneficial to our economy and our community—and we believe it will be beneficial for your company.
To RSVP for the information session, please contact Lynnette Burks at (614)559-6051 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
