The holidays are a time of family gatherings, festive parties, and quality time with loved ones. While the holidays are a whirlwind of activity, it’s important to find time in your busy schedule to relax. After all, the holidays can be a source of stress themselves. For business owners, it might seem next to impossible to spend time away from work during the holidays, however, we’ve compiled a list of tips on how to have a relaxing, stress-free holiday at home.

1. Schedule alone time

During the year, it might be difficult to set aside some time in your busy schedule to be alone. Make it a point during the holidays to schedule some alone time for yourself. During this time, do something you love. If you have a hobby, this would be the perfect time to indulge. You can use this time to start that book you’ve been meaning to read, listen to your favorite band, or binge-watch a favorite television show.

2. Turn off your electronic devices

While this may seem like an impossible suggestion, the benefits of shutting of your electronic devices, even for just a few hours, are tremendous. Try to create a schedule for electronic use and stick to it. For example, take an hour out of every day to answer emails, make social posts, or do whatever you have to do to keep your business running smoothly.

3. Take a walk

It’s a known fact that exercise is a fantastic way to relax and destress during a busy time. If you would like to exercise, but don’t want to pay for a gym membership, go for a walk or run around your neighborhood or town. You can either take this walk alone, or bring a friend, family member, or pet along with you.

4. Invest in an entertainment center

An in-home entertainment center is a wonderful way to sit back, relax, and forget about the worries and stresses of owning a business. An entertainment center is the perfect place to watch a favorite show or movie, or challenge a friend to a game of pool or ping pong. If your home does not have an entertainment center, talk to a custom home builder for options and prices.

5. Play with a pet

Playing fetch or simply petting a furry friend has been proven to lower stress levels. If you are looking for an easy way to relax this holiday season, try spending a little extra quality time with your pet.

6. Keep your work confined

One major key to relaxing over the holidays is to keep your work confined to a specific block of time and a specific area of the home. Doing your work in the same area of your home at the same time of the day helps limit the amount of time you spend thinking and worrying about work while at home. Without constant reminders scattered about your home, it’s easier to focus on other things.

7. Keep your home clean

One of the number one stressors at home is the cleanliness factor. If your home is messy, it could make your space more stressful, as the mess makes it harder to find things. If you keep your home tidy, it will ultimately help destress you and will create a more relaxing environment.

8. Rest

The holidays are a perfect time to catch up on sleep. Use these extra days off to sleep in a little later. If you have the time, squeeze in an afternoon nap. Ultimately, getting a healthy amount of sleep can do wonders for your stress level.

9. Try aromatherapy

Lighting a candle not only makes your home warm and cozy, but the smell can be relaxing as well. If you prefer the non-fire route, try diffusing essential oils. These oils have different scents, and can promote relaxation.

10. Talk it out

One of the most tried-and-true methods of relaxation is simply talking it out with a loved one. Sharing a problem that may be weighing heavy on your mind can be beneficial, as you can gain a new perspective and viewpoint on the situation.
