Provide us with a brief summary of your business’ services.

Tell us about your company’s mission and values.
We’re proud that, despite the trends and transitions that continually influence architecture, a simple set of core values has helped bring us to where we are today and will continue to guide us into the future. These deep-seated ideas align with the markets we serve and influence the way we work:
- Design That Elevates
- Sustainable Architecture
- Healthy Communities
- Civic Responsibility
- Lifelong Learning
What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
We find value in events like the Annual Meeting and Clambake where we can network with other businesses and learn about the success of our city. In addition, Sherm Moreland, CEO, has served on the Small Business Council for several years.
How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
Research and innovation are key to staying engaged with trends in architecture and design. On both a local and national level, our team members stay current with industry conferences so we can bring those innovations here to Columbus and our projects across the country.
What is your company culture like?
Collaboration fuels innovation and we live what we preach. Open workstations in studio pods encourage collaboration and efficiency. There are no corner offices at DesignGroup. Our spirit of collaboration extends beyond the work day and the four walls of our office headquarters. From inclusive weekly design feedback sessions, studio design crawls and annual design trips, we believe it’s important to work together AND have fun together.
What does it take to be a successful employee at your company?
At DesignGroup, our priority is making sure our clients are happy – plain and simple. Staying focused on their needs, combined with a curiosity and drive for professional growth are simply a way of life for us.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
It has been incredible to be a part of Columbus’ growth. While our local economy is thriving at a level with larger cities in the country, there remains a sense of community and entrepreneurial spirit that still continues to develop here.
What pieces of advice have you found to be the most helpful since starting your career?
Think of yourself as a brand. Actively seek your own personal board of directors to be your sounding board both personally and professionally. Be sure to assemble your board of directors with mentors in all aspects of business (i.e. accounting, finance, IT, legal, marketing, and operations).
How do you achieve a work/life balance?
Work/life balance for me is about compartmentalizing. I give 110% while in each moment and I communicate my commitments so my colleagues, family and friends know what to expect. Most importantly, it’s about having a wonderful husband and putting the phone away when possible.
Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside the office?
Fox in the Snow, hands down.
