As part of the latest entry in the Columbus Chamber’s CEO Insights series, David Kaufman was asked what hasn’t changed about his company during its nearly 90-year history.
“Our values and integrity have remained consistent,” said Kaufman. “The ‘why’ behind what we do has never changed. When bad things happen to good people, we’re there.”
The president and CEO of Motorists Insurance Group shared his thoughts on rejuvenating company culture, innovation, leadership and more during the hour-long interview with Columbus Chamber CEO Don DePerro.
After taking on his current role in 2013, one of Kaufman’s top priorities was to craft and implement a leadership vision that would ultimately influence the company’s many associates, affiliates and policyholders. He credits the resulting success to a bedrock focus on the atmosphere and mentality of everyone at Motorists.
“We focused on culture first,” said Kaufman. “We learned early on that our culture would be built on three things: Stay positive. Learn one new thing every day. Always give 100 percent.”
Motorists Insurance Group consists of 11 property and casualty, life insurance and insurance brokerage companies doing business in 24 states with more than 14,000 independent insurance agents and producers.
