Provide us with a brief summary of your business’ services.
At Workstate, we have a passion for solving complex technology problems for our Enterprise-level clients. We focus our energies around five practices: Cloud Shift, Identity and Access Management, Technology Team Rental, Application Security and Big Data.
Since 1997, we have been offering leadership and expertise around software strategy, development and testing that enables our business partners to thrive.
What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
We appreciate that the Chamber has expanded their services around their member knowledge database and will continue to utilize this service for networking. We also have enjoyed the B2B introduction offering.
How do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
From our partners to our developers, we utilize web resources to keep on top of what we love to do — build high-quality, custom software. Whether we pull from industry leaders’ reports, blogging, white papers, case studies or user groups, our team is constantly combing the web for the most up-to-date intel. We also attend industry conferences and symposiums to research and share internally the latest offerings from the brightest minds in our areas of expertise.
What is your company culture like?
Our team is built by technologists, for technologists. At Workstate, our focus is on technology skills, relationship skills, compelling project work, long-term career path development and a healthy work/life balance. We strive to be the best possible home for the brightest talent within a respectful and results-oriented culture.
What does it take to be a successful employee at your company?
Workstate is a great place for people who love software development (and things related), and thrive in that environment. If working in a close-knit, team-based environment that promotes quality, personal development and work-life balance feels like a good fit, that spells success for us. Our clear path for advancement results in low turn-over. Do you love to build? So do we.
What makes Columbus such a great place to do business?
We feel like Columbus pays attention to mindful growth, without overtaxing the infrastructure, services and roadways. With regards to our business, Columbus is ranked #3 overall in tech jobs in the country!
Because the cost-of-living is fairly affordable, large corporations are attracted to the low overhead for doing business, are able to grow here, bringing in more opportunities, and more tech jobs. We also like that, despite being big-business-friendly, Columbus also values the offerings of small business owners while maintaining a hometown, friendly feel.
How do you achieve a work/life balance?
Our employees enjoy a host of activities outside work, and unlike many other tech companies, we don’t encourage our teammates to work around the clock or push past regular business hours.
Passionate about cooking, hiking, pets, family time, camping, music, travel, sports, gardening, movies, activism, reading/writing, and so much more — we all take the time to pursue activities that recharge us before heading back to our client projects — which also serve to keep us inspired and motivated. We also enjoy providing in-office lunches on Fridays to keep things casual and connected.
Where is your favorite place to have a meeting outside the office?
During warm weather, local restaurants with outdoor eating areas are a big win with us! Our offices are next to the North Market, so we do enjoy to grabbing a coffee and conversation there year ’round.
Some other restaurants with great ambience that we love are: J. Alexander, Double Comfort and Denmark — excellent for both lunch or dinner with clients.
