What are the services you use the most (or are looking forward to using) from the Columbus Chamber?
I have first-hand experience with how great the research department is at the Columbus Chamber. I’m looking forward to continuing to utilize their skill and also looking forward to becoming more engaged with the events and committees.

scalohq_autumnHow do you stay engaged with trends that you see in your industry?
I receive several industry trade magazines and subscribe to trade-specific pod casts. The pod casts are becoming my favorite because they are something I can listen to while I drive and they often interview very interesting industry experts and cover trending topics.

What do you think differentiates you from your competitors?
We are feverishly dedicated to innovation, growth, and diversification. This company never settles for status-quo and was thus named the Commercial Roofing Contractor of the Year this year by Roofing Contractor Magazine. Scalo also stands behind their product and is dedicated to Client Satisfaction from start to finish.

What is your company culture like?
Our company culture is built on a foundation of family-business values; most prominently, loyalty and pride. The employees of the Scalo Companies take a great deal of pride in the work that they do and stand behind the brand they represent. The culture is also one of continuous improvement and innovation – it’s constantly pushing employees to do more than they ever dreamed they would and evolve with the company to remain leaders in the roofing industry.

gpcciiWhat advice would you have appreciated hearing when first starting your career?
Get involved with an industry association, chamber or community club and be an active member – an active and engaged member. As I’ve progressed through my career, I’ve seen the awesome power of what the right network of people can accomplish. Getting involved and building your network right from the start will help you achieve bigger and better things.

How do you achieve work/life balance?
My wife and I always try to have, and actively work towards, individual and family-life goals. This gives us direction on something to work towards outside of our careers and helps to bring us closer together by working together for a common goal.

What business leader do you admire the most and why?
Brenda Stier-Anstine. Brenda was my CEO at Marketing Works and is one of the most kind, genuine people I know. She leads by example, always does the right thing and truly cares. She is a self-made woman and established herself as an adept, business-savvy woman during a Good ol’ Boys era earning respect from her male counterparts through perseverance, know-how and action. She’s an inspiration.

jackbentleysolarpanelsWhere is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?
There is something about being outside that makes for a wonderful offsite meeting. Most of the time that means the golf course, but could also very well be a nice restaurant patio, fishing boat or sporting event.

Why do you think Columbus is a great place to do business?
I’ve lived in Columbus for about six years now, a transplant from Southern California. I have to say I love it here in Columbus more than where I grew up. The local universities bring in such diversity to our community it makes for a smart, competitive landscape that brings out the best in us.
