What business leader do you most admire and why?
Sam Walton. You had to admire the tireless energy of “Mr. Sam.” Walton cared deeply about his customers and his employees, and was constantly seen in stores talking with both. He was never afraid to try new ideas and learn from them. His relentless drive to cut costs to keep prices low has enabled millions of people to live better lives. Despite being a billionaire Sam Walton stayed humble, living in the same house and driving the same old pickup truck. People were what mattered most to him.
What is your favorite place to have a meeting outside of the office?
Our customers’ offices ─ we want to know them better, and for them to feel that we are a part of their team.
Why do you think Columbus is a great place to do business?
From a strategic standpoint, Columbus is home to a remarkable range of businesses, large and small, and thus diversified against any one industry suffering a downturn. Our city is home to many great institutions and ranks among the highest cities in America in per-capita philanthropy. More importantly, the people make this a great city. The combination of Midwestern values, good schools, a relatively low cost of living, a very optimistic economic outlook and great enthusiasm (O-H … I-O!) creates a quality of life competitive with any other community in the nation.
