Vote affirms support of 9.01 mils levy, appointment of an independent auditor
Columbus, OH – The Board of Directors of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce yesterday passed a resolution supporting the Columbus School Levy and appointment of an independent auditor. This resolution follows the Board’s support of House Bill 167 in May, and emphasizes the business community’s dedication to education-related initiatives in the Columbus Region.
“The youth of Columbus are our greatest asset, and we owe them the benefit of a top-notch education. This proposal and the associated levy go a long way in making that a reality,” said Michael Dalby, president and CEO, Columbus Chamber. “Although any levy increase is an increased tax on our businesses, which we don’t take lightly, we view these funds as an investment in our economy – our future citizens, innovators and business women and men.”
The Columbus Chamber is committed to supporting resources that will help the local education system perform at its best. The levy and appointment are two of several components in Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s Education Commission’s proposal to improve the state of education in Columbus City Schools. The levy would fund high-performing community schools, technological upgrades in schools and teacher training and retention, among other initiatives. The independent auditor would monitor Columbus City School operations. Both are to be included on the November ballot.
The Columbus Chamber’s resolution further outlines the importance of quality education to the area’s growing business community.
