A leading economic development publication ranked Columbus the eighth best metro area for business expansion. For a marketer who works in economic development, that’s a good day. And, it comes on top of a recent survey of CEO’s that indicates there is increased awareness of our city.
So what does that all mean (and why should anyone, beyond said marketer, care)? It means, the world is taking notice of Columbus. It means, businesses who are looking for places to open their doors are thinking “Columbus.†Translation – growing economy for our great community.
It also means, the strategy is working. Economic development professionals in our eight-county region have been working on a regional approach to business attraction. Meaning, we market as one community, we share “leads,†we collaborate on prospects. We work with a “we’re all in this together†approach.
The payoffs are big. In 2008, more than 120 businesses entered or expanded in the Columbus region, committing to an investment of nearly $800 million and creating jobs for more than 15,000.
Congratulations to the economic development professionals who have put competition aside in the interest of the region. You scored!
